Sunday 25th September

Day 2 of walking Hadrian's Wall - Newburn to East Wallhouses.  (9.75 miles).
Today we left the River Tyne and headed for Heddon on the Wall.

We had a coffee (and fudge) in the Swan at Heddon and sat outside to look at the lovely view.

We could see that the clouds were gathering and by the time we got to the wall the rain had come!

We were a little disappointed to find that this was the longest bit of the wall that we would see.

The rain did stop and we continued our walk to East Wallhouses, mostly by the straight military road on one side or the other in a ditch (which we weren't too keen on) and we were glad to see the reservoir near the end of our walk

We were picked up and taken back to Heddon on the Wall to stay in Heddon Lodge which was a nice private house.  The house was clean and breakfast was good here but the man of the house who took us to and from our walks charged us for our lifts (Contour Travel ensured that our money was refunded but the experience made us feel uncomfortable).

We had our evening meal in the Swan which was very good.  We had of course already recced the pub earlier when we had our coffee and fudge.
