Tuesday 27th September

Day 4 of walking Hadrian's Wall - Chollerfod to Housesteads.  (9 miles).

We had to return to Chester's Fort first thing because we had forgotten to get our passports stamped and we were worried that we wouldn't be able to buy our certificates of completion of the walk if we didn't collect all the stamps.

We had been worried that there were no places to stop for coffee today when what should we see but.....

the perfect place to stop and put on the wet weather gear.

The weather did clear up for a while and we were able to use our brand new sit-mats, they are so compact that you can't even see them when they are sat on.

There was a lot of traffic on the road near to Hadrian's Wall as there had been an accident on the main road and because it was so windy we saw a lorry that had been blown off the road.

We saw some more of the wall:

We emerged to Housesteads Roman fort right next to some "emergency portaloos" which we made use of because after several hours walking it was an emergency!  We had a look round the fort.

And then we were picked up and taken to our accommodation for the  night - Hunter's Crook which was fantastic, lovely views and with hens wandering around, definitely free range.  The accommodation was in a building separate from the house with a lovely dining area upstairs. The owner was an ex-chef and he cooked us a lovely meal.  Catherine and Brendan bought us some prosecco to celebrate our anniversary.  A perfect evening.
